Hemp Fabric
Most of the hemp used in Thailand  is grown in Laos and China as it is difficult for the Hill Tribe people of Northern Thailand to cultivate the plant. But they take the raw dried plants and soften the fiber to be able to take the threads and weave them into this most amazing fabric. They dye the fabric themselves using the old and original techniques. The Hill Tribe people are known for their independent and nomadic life style and are beautiful to see for their connectedness to the earth. Pictured on the left is a Hmong woman weaving on her back-strap loom.
